Mission Recap - Crabtree Bags Fourth Development Tour Title Of The Year

Cam Crabtree leads the way at the top of the PDC Development Tour Order of Merit after winning his fourth title of the season.

The 21-year-old opened his title account on the Development Tour with a hat-trick of tournament victories in Germany back in May.

And ‘Shazam’ added to his haul after triumphing in Event 19 during the penultimate weekend of the season in Wigan on Saturday.

Crabtree reeled off three straight legs from 3-2 down to beat fellow PDC tour card holder Sebastian Bialecki 5-3 in the final, sealing the title with a 138 checkout to pocket the £2,500 top prize.

The day before ‘Shazam’ reached the final of Event 17, losing 5-1 to Jamai van den Herik in the final, while Viktor Tingstrom enjoyed his best run to date on the Development Tour with a run to the final of Event 18.

The Swede had previously made two semi-finals on the Development Tour, but broke new ground in Wigan with seven wins in a row before being edged out 5-3 by Tyler Thorpe in the decider.

Later that day, Keelan Kay produced his best run on this year’s Development Tour as he reached the quarter-finals of Event 19.

Crabtree leads the way at the top of the Development Tour Order of Merit with £14,975 ahead of the final four events in Wigan next month. The player who finishes top of the rankings will qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts.

Wessel Nijman continues to make his mark on the European Tour with a run to the quarter-finals of the Czech Darts Open this past weekend.

The 25-year-old Dutchman started his campaign in Prague with back-to-back 6-5 wins over Richard Veenstra and Damon Heta, before averaging 100 in a 6-3 victory over Rob Cross to advance to the final session.

Nijman faced off against the world number one Luke Humphries in the quarter-finals and fired in a 170 checkout early on in the contest, but would eventually pay the price for two missed match darts to win 6-3 as he was edged out in a last-leg decider by the eventual champion.

The PDC ProTour resumed after a summer break with a pair of Players Championships in Milton Keynes at the end of August.

Alan Soutar was the top performer in Players Championship 24, reaching the quarter-finals before falling to the eventual champion Jeffrey de Graaf.

Martin Lukeman and Brett Claydon also made the last 16 on the same day, while Soutar and Wessel Nijman both made the last eight in Players Championship 25 the following day.

Wessel Nijman booked a return to Amsterdam for the World Series of Darts Finals after winning through the recent tour card holder qualifier.

The Dutchman defeated Owen Bates 6-1 in the final round to secure one of six spots in the 32-player field.

A few days earlier Nijman picked up the Zwaantje Masters title on home soil, defeating Danny Noppert 3-1 in the final.

Michele Turetta also grabbed some of the headlines during the qualifier after throwing a nine-dart leg during his first-round clash with Andy Boulton.

Nijman has been drawn against Michael van Gerwen in the first round of the World Series of Darts Finals, while Australian Darts Masters finalist Mike De Decker will take on Germany’s Gabriel Clemens.

The ITV-televised event takes place at the AFAS Live from September 12-14.

Joe Croft continued his recent good form after winning the ADC East of England Open on Saturday.

Croft, who also reached the quarter-finals of the WDF-ranked Welsh Classic the previous weekend, defeated Leigh Beeton 5-2 in the final.

Addison Hefferon, 11, also caught the eye with a run to the last four of the East of England Open, losing out 5-2 to Beeton in the semi-finals.

Several Mission Academy players made deep runs in recent EDO England Youth Grand Prix events in Coventry.

Daniel Stephenson reached the semi-finals in Event 5, while Ethan Baines made back-to-back quarter-finals in Events 5 and 6.

Elsewhere, Jake Hobbs added to his title tally after winning the ADC South East & London Vault 13.0 Level Up Rise Finals.

The 15-year-old averaged 93 in his 5-3 victory over Bill Emeberley in the quarter-finals, before later posting an 89 average in a 5-1 success against Bradely O’Connor in the final.

Jack Caulfield secured top spot on the JDC Volts Series 2 ROI & NI rankings after winning a title in Waterford last week.

'The Jackhammer', who recently qualified for the WDF Boys' World Masters, defeated Alex Smyth 3-1 in the final to clinch the title and top the rankings with 224 points.
