Mission Recap - Crabtree Tops The Development Tour

Cam Crabtree has earned a debut at the Grand Slam of Darts next month after finishing top of the Development Tour Rankings.

For the second consecutive year a Team Mission player has topped the rankings on the PDC’s youth circuit, with ‘Shazam’ following in the footsteps of Wessel Nijman, who was the Development Tour number one in 2024.

Crabtree finished the season in style after claiming his fifth Development Tour title of the year with a victory in Event 22 on Saturday, beating Viktor Tingstrom 5-2 in an all-Mission final.

It was a Mission title-winning double in Wigan on Saturday as Dominik Gruellich marked his return to the Development Tour with a tournament victory in Event 21.

The German defeated Beau Greaves 5-4 in the final to pick up his second title of the season which helped him secure an eighth-place finish on the rankings.

On Monday, nine Mission players were in action in the PDC World Youth Championship, with Crabtree, Gruellich, Dylan Slevin and Tavis Dudeney all making it through to the knockout stages.

Gruellich was edged out 6-4 by Hong Kong’s Lok Yin Lee in the last 64, while Slevin and Dudeney both fell in the last 32 after defeats to Tyler Thorpe (6-4) and Liam Manedl-Lawrance (6-3) respectively.

The Development Tour number one Crabtree battled through to the quarter-finals after hard-fought wins over Keenan Thomas (6-5), Bram van Dijk (6-4) and Nunjo Dewaele (6-5), before losing out to the defending champion Gian van Veen (6-2).

Wessel Nijman clinched the second ProTour title of his career with a victory in Players Championship 30 in Leicester.

The Dutchman averaged 97 for the day as he reeled off seven wins on the spin to take home the £15,000 top prize, with his run including victories over Chris Dobey (6-2), Ryan Searle (7-2) and Damon Heta (8-3).

The previous day Nijman had reached the semi-finals of Players Championship 29, with the highlight being a 108 average in beating Connor Scutt 6-1 in the third round.

In the same event, Ryan Meikle enjoyed his best run of the season so far with a quarter-final, which included the scalp of Stephen Bunting in the last 16.

Nijman also made the last eight of Players Championships 31 and 32 in Wigan this week, which leaves him as the provisional seventh seed for the upcoming Players Championship Finals.

Meanwhile, Michele Turetta and Rhys Griffin both achieved new milestones in the PDC with runs to their first quarter-finals on the ProTour.

Turetta defeated Dave Chisnall 6-5 in the first round of Players Championship 28, before going on to beat Jitse van der Wal, Madars Razma and Richard Veenstra to set up a quarter-final with Brendan Dolan, where he lost 6-2.

Griffin’s memorable run came in Players Championship 32 earlier this week, as the Welshman racked up wins against Danny Lauby, Jonny Clayton, Matthew Dennant and Mickey Mansell, before bowing out 6-3 to Luke Littler.

Oskar Lukasiak has secured a debut in the PDC World Darts Championship this December after finishing third on the PDC Nordic & Baltic Pro Tour rankings.

The Swede was edged out of second spot on the rankings on count back, after Teemu Harju won the last event of the season in Norway back in August.

However, Lukasiak’s third-place finish has now earned him a first appearance at Alexandra Palace, with Harju’s triumph in the inaugural PDC Nordic & Baltic Championship in Copenhagen seeing the extra World Championship spot now given to the next highest-ranked player in the rankings.
