Mission Recap - Edhouse Boosts European Championship Qualifying Hopes

Ritchie Edhouse gave his hopes of qualifying for the European Championship a welcome boost after completing a European Tour qualification double last week.

‘Madhouse’ made history last October when he won the European Championship, becoming the first player from Team Mission to win a PDC major title.

Edhouse went into last week’s pair of European Tour qualifiers in the penultimate provisional spot for this year’s European Championship, but boosted his qualifying bid after winning through both of the tour card holder qualifiers in Leicester.

The reigning European champion threw back-to-back 100+ averages on his way to qualifying for next month’s Czech Darts Open (ET11), before a pair of 95 averages helped him to secure a place in the Hungarian Darts Trophy (ET12) at the end of September.

Cam Crabtree will make his third appearance on the European Tour this year after also coming through the ET12 qualifier. ‘Shazam’ whitewashed Andy Boulton 6-0 in the final round to clinch his place in Budapest next month.

That qualification success capped off a pleasing few days in Leicester for the 21-year-old, who also reached the semi-finals of Players Championship 22.

Crabtree averaged 98.71 for the tournament as he reeled off five wins in a row, including 100 and 105 averages in victories over Michele Turetta and Steve Lennon, before bowing out 7-5 to Niels Zonneveld in the semi-finals.

On the same day, Ryan Meikle continued his recent upturn in results with a run to the last 16, and Viktor Tingstrom enjoyed his best run on the ProTour so far by reaching the same stage as Meikle.

Wessel Nijman followed up his impressive debut at the World Matchplay with a run to the semi-finals of Players Championship 23 last week.

The Dutchman averaged 108.91 in his third-round victory over Kim Huybrechts, before his run ended in a 7-6 defeat to Germany’s Lukas Wenig in the final four.

Ryan Joyce caught the eye earlier that day with an astonishing 114.03 average in his last 16 win against Michael Flynn, before losing 6-4 to the eventual champion Jermaine Wattimena in the next round.

Oskar Lukasiak narrowly missed out on qualifying for the PDC World Darts Championship as the PDC Nordic & Baltic (PDCNB) Pro Tour concluded in Norway on Sunday.

The Swede was in a strong position to finish in second place on the PDCNB Pro Tour Order of Merit, as he kicked off the final weekend with a run to the final of Pro Tour 11 on the Saturday.

Lukasiak was beaten 6-4 by the Order of Merit leader Andreas Harrysson in the final and, after losing in the last 16 of Pro Tour 12 the next day, was edged out of second spot at the last minute on countback after Teemu Harju went on to win the title.

The PDC tour card holder will have another chance to qualify for Ally Pally via the PDCNB route when he competes in the inaugural PDC Nordic & Baltic Championship in October. The first staging of the competition features the top 24 players on the Order of Merit, with Lukasiak qualifying as the third seed.
