Ritchie Edhouse European Championship

Mission Recap – Edhouse Is The European Champion

Team Mission has its first PDC major champion after Ritchie Edhouse won the European Championship in Germany on Sunday night.

‘Madhouse’ enjoyed a dream week at the Westfalenhallen, in Dortmund, as he stormed through the field to pocket the £120,000 top prize and his maiden PDC senior title.

The 41-year-old started his title-winning campaign with a 6-1 victory over Gian van Veen, where he posted an eye-catching 109.42 average in the opening game of the tournament on Thursday night.

In his first appearance in the last 16 of a major event, Edhouse battled back from 4-1 down to defeat the former world champion and world number two Michael Smith 10-9 on Saturday afternoon.

The big-name scalps kept coming for Edhouse the next day, as he fired in seven 180s and a 164 checkout in beating the two-time world champion Gary Anderson 10-5 in the quarter-finals.

‘Madhouse’ then got the better of Luke Woodhouse 11-5 in the semi-finals to set up a final clash with Jermaine Wattimena, a contest which pitted the two lowest-ranked players at the start of the tournament against each other.

Trailing 3-2 to the Dutchman at the first interval, an inspired Edhouse reeled off nine legs in a row to prevail 11-3, wrapping up a monumental victory with a 92 finish on two double 18s to clinch the title.

Edhouse's first PDC senior title also takes him into the world's top 32 for the first time, with 'Madhouse' now ranked 29th on the PDC Order of Merit.

Elsewhere, Thomas Banks defeated Gary Stone 6-5 to win The Vault National Finals in Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The 18-year-old averaged 97 in a 5-2 win against Michael Warburton in the semi-finals, before hitting a trio of ton-plus checkouts to edge past Stone in the decider.

The victory leaves ‘The Bulldog’ top of the ADC Order of Merit and in good form heading into the ADC’s Championship Tour Grand Final next month.

Archie Self topped the JDC Super 16 rankings after winning five of the eight events over the two weekends.

The JDC number one finished on 35 points to top the rankings, as he followed up a pair of titles on the first weekend with victories in Events 5, 6 and 7 during the second weekend.

Jake Hobbs made a quarter-final in Event 7 to help him finish 10th in the rankings.

Meanwhile, Aryaveer Chokhani added another title to his collection after winning the Tolly Masters at the weekend.

‘The Explosion’ defeated Kumar Vaibhav 5-2 in the final of the Indian Darts Council (IDC) ranked event on Saturday.
